Why signup asks for a @username instead of your real name
When you sign up for PrismPoster, you give a @username, an email, and a password. That's it. We don't ask for your real or legal name at registration. This is on purpose: collecting less personal data is safer for you and follows the GDPR principle of data minimization. Your @username is a public handle you choose; it's what appears on anything you later release to Discover or PrismRadio. A billing name is only collected later, at checkout, when you start a paid plan.
What does signup actually collect?
Three things:
- A @username — your public handle. You pick it. It's not your legal name and doesn't have to match it.
- An email address — for sign-in, verification, and account notices.
- A password — to secure your account.
Signing up grants free trial credits so you can try the Image Studio and Music Studio right away. See Create your account for the full walkthrough.
Why not collect a real name up front?
Under the GDPR, we only collect personal data we actually need for the task at hand. To create and store generations, we don't need your legal name — a handle and a login are enough. Asking for less means there's less sensitive data to protect, and less for you to worry about if you ever want your data removed. You can read the full policy at /privacy.
When is my real name collected?
Only when you subscribe to a paid plan. At checkout, our payment processor (Stripe) captures a billing name along with your card details, because that information is required to process a payment and issue a valid invoice. That billing name is tied to your payment, not to your public profile. Your @username stays separate from it.
Can I change my @username later?
Your @username is your public identity on PrismPoster, so treat it as something durable. If you need to change it, manage your account from Settings. Because the handle appears on released public work, changing it affects how you're credited going forward.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will other people see my real name on PrismPoster?
No. Your public identity is your @username, not your legal name. The billing name captured at checkout is used only for payment processing and invoicing, and it isn't shown on your public profile or on released content.
Do I have to use my real name as my @username?
No. Your @username is a handle you choose. It doesn't need to match your legal name, and we don't verify it against one.
Where can I read how my data is handled?
